Our Philosophy:
Genesis Centers offer therapeutic counseling for recovery from addictions and for mental health concerns. This centers around our centers core beliefs that:
- Fulfillment occurs through a process of making positive changes in a caring environment, with the support of qualified, highly motivated and empathetic counselors. Treatment very often involves the entire family.
- Recovery from addictions can occur with the help of constructive techniques intended to promote abstinence from substance use.
- An individual can be empowered to confidently manage difficult feelings and emotions.
- Mental health problems can be addressed by understanding how stress and trauma can play a large part in the healing process. Individual counseling, group counseling, and family counseling are means to this end. Sometimes medications are necessary as well.

The History of Genesis Counseling Center
Established in 1979 by its founder Gabriel L. Guerrieri, Genesis Counseling Center, a nonprofit organization, has earned a reputation in Southern New Jersey as one of the finest Mental Health and Addictions Treatment Centers in the area.
The "genesis" of Genesis was Gabe's conviction to provide high-quality and innovative mental health and addiction counseling to people in a caring way and within their financial means. With this singular guiding ideal, Genesis has evolved from a grassroots organization offering a variety of behavioral health programs and services across Burlington and Camden counties.
Genesis, which opened its door with only one counselor, now consists of over 50 well-trained and highly educated program staff members, including masters-level therapists, licensed social workers, certified addictions counselors, and licensed professional counselors. A psychiatrist can be used through referrals.
Today, many children, adolescents, adults, families, and seniors receive caring, comprehensive treatment through the various innovative programs run by Genesis. As a counseling center that believes a community is only as healthy as the individuals in it, Genesis has stepped to the forefront, offering unique programs like the Student Assistance Program, the Early Intervention Program for youth and parents, the counseling program at the Camden County Correctional Facility, called Second Chance, United Way Case Management Program in Camden City, and the nationally recognized Camden County Adolescent and Adult Recovery Court Programs.

DUI / IDRC Programs:
Did you know the more alcohol you ingest the more your blood alcohol concentration level (BAC) increases? Did you know that the more your BAC increases and you get behind the wheel of a car, the higher risk you become for receiving a DWI/DUI and/or becoming an unwilling participant in an alcohol-related automobile accident?
Did you know the State of New Jersey has lowered its legal BAC level to .08? Did you know that a repeat offender of DUI/DWI in the State of New Jersey is in danger of being incarcerated for a minimum of six months?
Anyone at any age who drinks alcohol and gets behind the wheel of a car is in danger of any of the above symptoms and/or outcomes.
We have extensive experience in addressing DUI-related mental health concerns at Genesis Counseling Center.

If you are just getting started or coming via a referral, it's easy to schedule an appointment with a member of our professional staff. The cost of the intake appointment is $125 for both substance abuse and mental health, a portion of which may be covered by your insurance.

In this popular method of one-on-one treatment, the individual and the therapist form a strong bond. Trust is established, so the patient can feel relaxed and respected, allowing them to proceed on their journey of letting go of the things that have a strong hold over them.
Counseling Timeline
The stronger the bond of trust between the patient and therapist, the quicker the person can advance in treatment. Depending on the nature of the problem, the duration between sessions can be adjusted to best suit the needs of the individual and best support their process.

It's easy for newcomers to schedule an appointment with a member of our professional staff. The cost of the intake appointment is $125 - a portion of which may be covered by your insurance. A charge of $25 for drug testing will be added to the $125 intake.

At Genesis Counseling Center, we can facilitate a group therapy setting that provides personal growth and learning. Group therapy is popular, as well, since in a group setting the members of the session can give support to each other as they discuss a common topic that might have a bearing on the whole group (teenage drinking, for example).

Improve Communication
Couples and Marriage Counseling
Most people think that counseling is performed on a one-to-one basis, where a client states problems or concerns and the therapist enters into a one-to-one relationship with the client. However, there are times when it is essential to have another person in the counseling relationship.
Proper communication, or learning to communicate with each other is a priority first and foremost in couples counseling. It is imperative to open the other person up to problems or issues that can block communication. This lack of proper communication prevents the couple from advancing, or can even destroy the relationship.
Couples counseling is fun and challenging, and an opening to learning how each other feels about the other person. This process is performed in the safe environment of the counseling office and the therapists assist the couple in understanding the other more completely. Love that has been questioned by each other is usually strengthened in the process.
In marital counseling, the couple along with a therapist discusses issues that are causing problems in their relationship. It could be as minor as who squeezes the toothpaste from the middle of the tube, or as major as an affair that sends a relationship into turmoil. In a sense, a wedge was or is created that needs to be talked through before the couple can go back to a healthy balance. In doing so, the wedge is removed and the couple can go back to a healthier state of interaction.
